Pluto Sans is based on a circle which results in a geometric construction and makes it great for usage, where the wide proportions can shine. The condensed version of Pluto Sans shows its strength when a more space saving version is needed. It can either be used in combination with every Pluto family member or on its own – for example in long texts in reading sizes it is a great choice, because it doesn’t need as much space as Pluto Sans. Its open forms and high x-height make it very convenient in small sizes and it has a good reading rhythm.

We created Pluto Sans Condensed as an addition to Pluto Sans. An addition that is optimized for long texts. Pluto Sans Condensed has the same DNA as Pluto Sans, has a similar geometry and conveys the same friendliness of its wider companion. Its more condensed architecture has an economic effect on your layout. You will be able to convey more information in the same space and point size. Through its high x-height it is also working well in small captions and is perfectly readable in very small sizes.

Tabular Figures

Besides the standard lining figures, the fonts also contain a set of tabular figures. This means that all numbers have the same width, which is useful for setting up invoices, tables or every other task where the figures should have a structured appearance among themselves.

Subscript

A subscript is a character that is set slightly below the normal line of type. They are used in formulas, mathematical expressions, and specifications of chemical compounds and isotopes, but can have many other uses as well. These characters are not simply ordinary characters reduced in size – to keep them visually consistent with the rest of the font, they are slightly heavier than a reduced-size character would be.

A superscript is a character that is set slightly above the line of type. It has the same weight and size like a subscript character. They are also used in formulas, mathematical expressions and text references, but can have many other uses as well.

Pluto Sans Condensed has an extended character set that supports more than a hundred languages. Part of the language coverage is the support for Latin and Cyrillic script.

Together with Pluto Sans and their condensed version, Pluto represents a type system of 64 fonts.

A Type System

Pluto and Pluto Sans are two families consisting of normal and condensed width – four families in total plus matching Italics. Every family member works perfectly with the others, which results in a wide range of possibilites. There are a lot of significant differences between the two families. While Pluto has these special terminals and letterforms that are more influenced by handwriting, Pluto Sans is more straight and has classical forms, but we kept special attention not lose its relationship to its family member.
